Memorial services for Colleen Cecil, 72, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Menefee officiating.

Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas.

The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends Tuesday, June 4, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Mrs. Cecil died Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas.

She was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Mayfield, Texas, to James Burrell and Willie Ruth (Hatler) Bradley.

She graduated from Abernathy High School and married Oris Joseph Cecil on May 25, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas.

She was a longtime Abernathy resident, volunteered as an Abernathy EMT and served on the Abernathy City Council. She was employed with the Abernathy ISD for 36 years as the food service supervisor. She was all about her grandchildren and the kids at school. She loved gardening vegetables and flowers and was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Scott.

She is survived by husband, Oris Cecil of Abernathy; two daughters, Shari Connell and her husband Joe Jack of Abernathy, and Jan Smyers and husband Jody of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Crysta Jones of Midland, Texas, Cameron Connell of Canyon, Texas, Clara Smyers, and Cody Smyers, both of Lubbock; two brothers, Carroll Bradley and wife Karen of Abernathy, Texas, and Calvin Bradley and wife Sue of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Cherylene Vandygriff and husband Clyde of Abernathy; and a brother in-law, Frank Scott of Amarillo, Texas.
