Fred Strauch

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 27, for Fred Strauch, 61, of Walnut Creek, Calif., who died Aug. 23, in Walnut Creek.

He was born in Windsor on April 20, 1924. He married Doris Smith in 1948 in Greeley.

Mr. Strauch was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from May 1943 to January 1946. He was a 1948 graduate of the Agronomy Department at Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University.

He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, from 1948 to 1958 and then transferred to the Agricultural Research Service where he worked until retirement in 1981.

He received special commendation from the National Soil Conservation Society of America. He was a charter member of the Northeast Chapter of Soil Conservation Society of America and held many offices, including president of the organization in 1971. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Mr. Strauch is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Janet L. Strauch of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a son, Lauren Strauch of Fort Collins; six sisters, Catherine Glantz of Fort Collins, Elizabeth Hahn of Poppenshi, Wash., Lily Dumler and Ester Frank, both of Sunnyside, Wash., Freda Reeis of Windsor and Rachel Ehrlich of Stockton, Calif.; and two brothers, Reuben Strauch of Billings, Mont., and John Strauch of Laurel, Mont.

Services were held at Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel with burial in Grandview Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Larimer County in care of Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
