Amanda and John Tenney were married April 16, 1885 "at the home of Ward Henderson", in Braxton County, by J T Napier. John was a native of Upshur County and lived near Amanda's grandparents, Robert and Eliza Wingfield. The couple had two daughters, Ina and Stacy, both born in Upshur County.
In 1900 John's widowed mother was living with the family. His mother died in 1903 and the family was enumerated in the 1910 census as living in Madison County which is where they would remain. In 1920 Ina and Stacy were no longer at home and Amanda's nephew Gotthart Tenney Thrash was assisting with farm labor. In 1940 John and Amanda were living alone.
