Married to Sybil C Van Arnum (various spellings of her maiden name)
August 8, 1847, Lee County, Illinois.

Elias was the son of Lewis Stiles and Sarah Ann Dodson.

CHICAGO, August 27 - General E. B. Stiles died at Dixon, Ill., today. He has been prominent in banking circles in northern Illinois and was well known a year ago as a successful speculator and extensive farmer.

DIXON, Ill., Aug. 26 - This community was greatly startled today on learning that Hon. E. B. Stiles, an old and well known citizen of this place, died in Chicago early this morning of congestion of the lungs, with which he had been suffering for over a week. About a year ago, he had a paralytical stroke on the Chicago Board of Trade, on which he had been an active operator for many years. He was in the 62nd year of his age. Mr. Stiles held the office of Treasurer of this county in 1854, 1856, and 1862, and was formerly a banker here. In 1862 he ran as a candidate for Congress against Hon. E. B. Washburne. He was formerly one of the most active and influential Democrats in the State. He had been a resident of the Rock river region for some forty years.
