Melida and her family fled their home in Voylnia after the Bloody Sunday Battle, until they immigrated to Canada. They departed from Belguim on April 10, 1906 on the SS Lake Michigan, arriving on April 22, 1906 in Saint John, New Brunswick. Passenger list includes, Julius age 46, Melida age 41, Wilhelm age 13, Adolf age 10, Joseph age 8, Rosalie age 3, Sam age 6, and Martin age 9 months. There are no records of a baby Martin after their arrival. Their son Daniel was born in Canada.
They farmed on homestead property in Ellerslie, Alberta from 1908 to 1920, until they sold their farm and moved to Puyallup, Washington. Julius and his wife Melida (aka Leder) traveled back and forth between Puyallup and Vancouver a number of times during the years they lived in Puyallup. In May 1928, they moved back to Vancouver, as Melida was not well. She died in April 1929.


Leder Albert, passed away April 8, 1929, aged 64 years, beloved wife of Julius Albert, of 2223 – 42 Ave., Vancouver, BC. She was survived by five sons, August and Adolf of Edmonton, Alta.; Joe of Millet, Alta.; William of Alberta Beach; Sam of Fawcett, Alta.; and one daughter, Mrs. Rosie Kolke of Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by sons Martin (1906-1911) and Daniel (1910-1914). She rested at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 6215 Fraser St. E, Vancouver, BC, and then traveled via CNR to Edmonton, Alta. for interment on Tuesday, April 9, 1929.
