Reinhard, with his brothers Herman and Gustav, immigrated to the US in 1881. This occurred two years after his marriage to Anna Gottsmann and 6 months after the birth of their daughter, Martha. He and his brothers settled in Manchester, NH, and he worked as a bricklayer.
Anna and 18 month old Martha immigrated the following year in the company of Reinhard's mother, Emilie, and brother Herman's wife, Marie and her children.

Martha married Louis Miller and settled in Stevinson, California. Milda married James Ahern and they eventually moved to Los Angeles.
