Reinhard, with his brothers Herman and Gustav, immigrated to the US in 1881. This occurred two years after his marriage to Anna Gottsmann and 6 months after the birth of their daughter, Martha. He and his brothers settled in Manchester, NH, and he worked as a bricklayer.

Anna and 18 month old Martha immigrated the following year in the company of Reinhard's mother, Emilie, and brother Herman's wife, Marie and her children.

Reinhard and Anna had many children, and most of them died young. In addition to the children listed there was an un-named stillborn daughter. Two daughters survived to adulthood. Martha married Louis Miller and settled in Stevinson, California. Milda married James Ahern and they eventually moved to Los Angeles.

After Anna's death in 1907, Milda stayed with him until her marriage. Sometime prior to 1920, Reinhard moved to Stevinson, living next door to Martha's family. By 1930 he was living with Milda and James in Los Angeles, where he remained until his death.
