She married Alexander Chegwin, also of Illogan, in about 1835. They raised at least 11 children. Her husband was a miner as were several of their sons. Her husband died at Truro in 1868.
After 1871 Susan and seven of her sons and daughters immigrated to Christchurch; two children immigrated to the United States, and only two stayed in Cornwall. She was 86 years old at her time of death.
