Son of Thomas Coombs, an immigrant of Ireland, and an unknown mother.

Edward's death was announced in 2 newspapers: The Norwich Courier on 7 March, 1838, page 252 and the Connecticut Observer on 10 March, 1838, page 260.

Died
At Preston on the 13th inst., in full hope of a glorious immortality beyond the grave, Mr. Edward Coombs, aged 66 years."

In the Will of Edward Coombs, probated in February, 1838, he mentions "my daughter Abigail Kenyon".
Son Joseph is the executor.

"I Edwards Coombs of Preston in the County of New London and State of Connecticut, although I am laboring under bodily infirmities and feel the decay of nature sensibly still as I humbly trust by the blessing of God I am of sound mind and disposing memories. Knowing that I must sooner or later leave this mortal stage and all things have I below behind, having a desire to direct in the distribution of what earthly goods I may die having of purposeful to do for that purpose. I do hereby make and this instrument by me, subscriber to be my last will and testament.
And first my will is that my body after death be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor having after named....my soul I would recommend to God who gave it hoping through the merits of a Glorified Redeemer for a blessed immortality beyond the grave.
Then Item 1st. To my daughter Abigail Kenyon, wife of Reynolds Kenyon I do give all of her mother's wearing apparel and the trunk that contains it; also the best bed bolster w/ pillows, 1 pair of pillow covers, two pairs of sheets, one pair of blankets, one best covers or suitable coverings for said bed. And twenty five dollars in monies to be paid by my executor after named in one year after my decease.
Item 2nd. After my just debts and funeral charges are paid, I do give the rest and residue of all my estate, both real and personal, to my son Joseph M. Coombs all which is to be of him his heirs and assigns forever, and I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Joseph M. Coombs to be sole executor to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made. In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 12th day of February, A.D., 1838.

At the end of the probate, 1848, Abby Kenyon received "cash of Legacy $74.63" and $551.40 was left to Joseph M. Coombs.
