Ann Poindexter was born about January 24, 1735, and her birth was registered at St. Peter's parish, New Kent County, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Poindexter and Christian Gissage. She married Reuben Slaughter, the son of Francis Slaughter and Ann Lightfoot on January 26, 1759, either in Louisa or Culpeper County. In 1765, Reuben inherited over 1000 acres of land near Gourd Vine Fork in Culpeper County from his father. Reuben and Betty (Ann) were the parents of thirteen children. They were living in Kanawha County in 1789, when Reuben was appointed surveyor for the county. Reuben died about 1805, it is unknown when Betty (Ann) died, but it was probably in Kanawha County. Her place of burial is unknown.
