Reuben Slaughter was the son of Reuben Slaughter and Betty (Ann) Poindexter. He was born on January 30, 1764, in Culpepper County, Virginia. Reuben, the son, served as a Sergeant in the Virginia Militia with Clendenan, during the Revolutionary War. On April 14, 1791, Reuben Slaughter wed Mary Donnally in Augusta County, Virginia. She was born about 1770, the daughter of Andrew Donnally and Jane McCreery. Reuben and Mary had seven children, born between 1797 and 1808. They settled in Kanawha County. Reuben died in Kanawha County on August 6, 1822, and was originally buried in the Donnally Family Cemetery. No marker was ever located in that cemetery for Reuben. The graves in that cemetery were moved to the Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston during the 1950s and Reuben was given a military headstone for his service in the Revolutionary War. Mary was a widow for almost 30 years. She died in Kanawha County in1851.
