LONG LIFE CLOSES

MRS. JULIA C. ORTON NEARLY NINETY YEARS OLD PASSES TO OTHER WORLD.

Following confinement to her home with sickness for the past nine months, Mrs. Julia Cleveland Orton, breathed her last at 5 o'clock a.m. Friday. To hear of the death of the venerable lady at the age of 89 years will be no surprise to her friends who have witnessed her gradual decline during the past year.
By the death of Mrs. Orton the city loses one of its oldest inhabitants and a resident for fifty years of the city and the county.
Deceased was born in Madison, N.Y., January 26, 1817. She was the eleventh child of a family of twelve children all of who had preceded her to the grave. She was married to Dr. Lyman O. Orton, August 26, 1841 and they lived in Lebanon, N.Y. for fourteen years when they moved to Illinois in September of the year of 1855 and in February of the next year moved to Logan county. At first Dr. and Mrs. Orton lived on a farm in Broadwell township and in April, 1864, moved to Lincoln where they have since resided. The death of the husband occurred more than 20 years ago and the wife has lived quietly and unostentatiously since. She leaves surviving--one daughter daughter, Miss Julia Orton, who has been living in North Carolina, but who was at the bedside of her mother when the latter was overtaken by death; two sons, Samuel Orton and Franklin C. Orton, prominent men in their respective communities preceded her in death several years ago.

Same Page: William Orton, returned Thursday evening from Culver, being called here by the death of his grandmother. He will not return for the commencement as the school closes June 14, butt expects to go back next year.
