Professional Hockey Player. A native of Toronto, Ontario, MacKay played for teams in the NHL, USHL, AHL, CHL, TBJHL, M-Cup, OHA-Jr., Ed-Cup., QHL hockey leagues. At 5'10, and 160lbs, MacKay played for the Port Arthur Bruins from 1943 to 1946, Port Arthur Flyers from 1943 to 1944, Oshawa Generals from 1946 to 1947, Detroit Red Wings from 1946 to 1947, 1948 to 1949, Omaha Knights from 1947 to 1948, Indianapolis Capitols from 1947 to 1950, Montreal Canadiens from 1949 to 1955, Buffalo Bisons from 1951 to 1953, Montreal Royals from 1955 to 1956, and the Peterborough Petes from 1956 to 1957. Mackay also played in the 1953 NHL All-Star Game. MacKay later retired from hockey, and moved to Marathon, Ontario, where he got a job with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. MacKay died on August 21, 2001, in Hamilton, Ontario, at the age of 74. He had previously lived in Marathon, Ontario, before moving to Hamilton.
