--from the Cemetery archives.

Probably the eldest son of Charles and Rachel Mason Baldwin of Litchfield, Connecticut; listed in Litchfield Vital Records as born December 29, 1791, and as married to Matilda Tinger on May 14, 1815.

According to a published "Baldwin Genealogy" he married Matilda Seabury; enlisted as a private and rose to the rank of sergeant major in the 37th U.S. Infantry during the War of 1812; following the war lived in Alexandria, VA [sic, at that time Alexandria was part of the District of Columbia]; moved to Washington about 1835, and died there July 3, 1874, having lived at 301 E Street, NW. Note that the latter date conflicts with the cemetery's burial record and the newspaper death notice.
