(PLEASE NOTE- this is what mom told me of her past, so it is from memory of what she told me)
She loved going to the movies as a kid, and in her early teens, and "running away from THE MUMMY(1932)" after she saw it as a kid.
She worked as a nurses aide for a bit.
She married a Marine, by the name of Severo Martinez. After that she traveled about, and had Jay, David, Glenna, Debbie (my bros, and sisters), and Me (Stephen).
From what she told, she lived in Hawaii in the early 50's, and she loved it there. David, my brother, was born in Honolulu. The only bro born out of state and country-at THAT time before Hawaii was actually a State.
She divorced in the 70's and raised Stephen(me) on her own.
During her declining years she became diabetic, but took her insulin injections on her own, but soon became invalid, and soon had a stroke, which devastated her to the point of which Stephen took care of her.
She was placed into a care home, when Stephen was without added assistance. Shirley remained there until a call was placed to Stephen noting that "mom was in the hospital, she aspirated some fluid". Shirley passed on Wedensday, August 31st at 5:40am, at Eden Hospital, Castro Valley, Ca. Her son was by her side.
