Harry Hill, 67, Longtime Pickering Employee, Dies; Services On Friday
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Terzich and Wilson chapel for Harry Hill, 67, of near Standard. Officers of Sonora Elks Lodge No 1587, and the Rev. Will Callahan will officiate. Interment will be in the Elks Plot at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Frank Momyer, Wesley Tinnin, Ed McMahon, Clinton Suttle, Fred Hansen and Robert N. Patton.
Mr. Hill, an employee of the Pickering Lumber Corporation and its predecessor, the Standard Lumber Company, since 1909, died in a Sonora hospital Tuesday evening after a brief illness.
He had served as yard superintendent of the company for many years after coming to Tuolumne County from his native Wichita, Kansas, with his uncle, the late T. S. Bullock, who constructed the mills at both the Pickering and West Side lumber plants. After living at Jamestown for three years, Mr. and Mrs. hill moved to their ranch home near the intersection of the Sonora-Tuolumne and the Standard roads, where they have since resided.
Mr. Hill was a charter member of the Sonora Elks Lodge No. 1587; a member of the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Posse; of Tuolumne County Fish and Game, Inc., and of the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce.
He leaves, in addition to his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Hill, a brother, Arthur B. Hill of New Jersey; a niece, Miss Ellen Mae Allen of El Paso, Texas, and three nephews, Myron Allen of Arizona, Jack Allen of El Paso, Texas, and Marvin Hill of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
