PIONEER SETTLERS
On Saturday afternoon, October 9th, Andrew Pfister, one of the pioneers of Charlestown, passed away at the home of his son, J. C. Pfister, aged 89 years, 6 months and 26 days.
The deceased was born at Germesberg, Germany, March 14, 1826, and came to this country with his parents in 1844, settling on a farm in Elm Grove, this state. In 1854 he came to Charlestown where he purchased a tract of land and like the sturdy pioneers who preceded him worked hard to convert it into a productive farm. In 1854 he was married at Milwaukee in St. Mary's church to Victoria Hirschboeck and returning they began housekeeping in the home on the clearing which he had prepared for her. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1904 and continued to live a life of uninterrupted companionship and contentment until March 7th, 1911, when Mrs. Pfister was called by death to the better world, leaving her aged companion to await the summons to meet and be reunited with her there.
Mr. Pfister was a man of absolute honor and integrity and was one of the prominent and successful farmers of Charlestown. During his residence there he made and cemented friendships that endured through life and though he had lived far beyond the allotted time for man his life was such that all regret his passing.
He is survived by one son, John C. Pfister, and one brother, John Pfister, both of Charlestown.
The funeral was held on Tuesday from St. Martin's Catholic church of which he was a devout member, his remains being laid beside those of his wife in St. Martin's cemetery.
