Crimean War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in the Islington district London, England, he served as a Seaman in the Royal Navy. On November 5, 1854, at the Battle of Inkermann Crimea, Seaman Gorman with two others manned a Lancaster Battery parapet and held the Russians at bay with steady rifle fire, while his colleagues below reloaded and passed rifles up. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the War Victoria on February 24, 1857. He later served in the Second Anglo-Chinese War (1856-60) and achieved the rank of Captain in the After Guard. He died at age 48 in Sydney, Australia.
