Frank Motter, 77, died at 4 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at his residence. He was the husband of Susanne (Menger) Motter. Mr. and Mrs. Motter celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in December, 2004. Born August 9, 1927, in York, he was the son of the late John C. and Margaret (Johnson) Motter. Mr. Motter was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. In 1953 he joined his father, John, and brother, John, Jr., in establishing the Motter Printing Press Company. He retired in 1990 as Chairman of the Board and President of Motter Printing Press Company. Prior to 1953, he worked as a Mechanical Draftsman for George F. Motter's Sons. Mr. Motter was a 1945 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He attended York Junior College and in 1951, he received his BS in Printing Management from Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1993, he received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from York College of Pennsylvania. Mr. Motter was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of York. He was a member of Zeredatha Lodge, No. 451, F&AM; Zembo Temple; Harrisburg Consistory; York County Shrine Club; the Country Club of York; the Lafayette Club; York County Heritage Trust; the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center; and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a life member of the York County Agricultural Society. Mr. Motter served as a board member of the following organizations: Rotary Club of York; the York Chapter of the American Red Cross; the United Way of York County; the Chamber of Commerce of York; the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center; the Out Door Country Club; the York County Industrial Development Corporation; the Lafayette Club, Better York, the York Foundation; and the Yorktowne Hotel. Mr. Motter was a past president of Memorial Hospital and the Manufacturer's Association of York. He was also past president of the Research and Engineering Council of the Graphic Arts Industry and he received the John L. Kronenberg Industry Leadership Award in 1992. He served on the Board of Directors of the Gravure Research Institute and the Gravure Association of America. He recently retired from the Board of Trustees of York College of Pennsylvania, Drovers Bank (a division of Fulton Bank), the York Water Company, and KBA North America, the successor to Motter Printing Press Co. In addition to his wife, Susanne, he is survived by a son, Edward and his wife, Nancy Cook Motter of the York area; a daughter, Linda Motter Lydon and her husband, Kevin of Hillsborough, NJ; and two grandchildren, Betsy and Rogan Motter. Mr. Motter was preceded in death by a son, John C. Motter, II. Celebration of Life Service Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at at First Presbyterian Church of York, Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan, officiating.
