Shreveport, LA - Services for Cecil Mack Faries, ,will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Centuries Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Reverend Tom Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends at funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cecil was born on January 22, 1927 in Shreveport, LA and passed away July 10, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Jan. 15. 1945. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, where he attended Radar School and was immediately shipped out to the Asiatic Pacific Area where he served as a Radarman Third Class on the destroyer USS Gregory (DD-802) and the submarine tender USS Beaver (ARG-19), until discharged on Aug. 1, 1946, in Bremerton, WA.

Upon discharge, he returned to Shreveport, LA where he attended Centenary College and graduated in 1951. He worked in oil related and industrial supply businesses for nearly 20 years. He was then employed by the Louisiana State Fair until his retirement in December 1992.

He joined Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post 14 in 1946 and held several offices and served on several committees, culminating in his being elected Post Commander in 1995-1996. He also served the Legion at the 4th District level.

He was wrecked into Voiture Locale 137 of the 40 & 8 Society on March 10, 1962. Cecil served the Voiture well for 53 years in virtually every office and committee on record, including Garde de la Porte, Chef de Train #2, Chef de Train #1, Chef de Gare in 1975-1976, Commissaire Intendant, president of the 1989 Southland's Dixie Promenade, a longtime locomotive driver on the Train Crew and a member of the Wrecking Crew. He held numerous offices in the Grande Voiture du Louisiana, including Grand Chef de Gare in 1982-1983. He also served Voiture Nationale as Sous Commissaire Intendant Nationale, Cheminot Nationale, Alternate Cheminot Nationale, Lampiste Nationale, Sous Organizer Nationale and a member of the Finance Committee.

Cecil also served as President of the Louisiana Jurisdiction of the Woodmen of the World and as Monarch of Mithra Grotto. He was a 62 year Mason of W. H. Booth Lodge #380 F&AM, a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason and belonged to the El Karubah Shrine Temple, Ascension Commandery No. 6 of the Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star, BPO Elks, Moose Lodge and Showmen's League of America.

Preceding Cecil in death are his parents, Della Blue Faries and John Mack Faries, and sister, Jewell Faries Murray.

He is survived by his brother, Emmit Faries and wife, Peggy along with several nieces and nephews, Nancy Faries Ross, Richard Faries, Mark Faries, Billy Murray and Mike Murray.

Honoring Cecil as pallbearers will be Mark Faries, Dennis Ross, Keith Lockhart, Stephen J. Lavery, Dennis N. Engdahl, Thomas R. Mills, Shawn M. Bohannon and D. Randall Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to www.stjude.org.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff at the Louisiana War Veteran's Home in Bossier City, LA.
