Leopold Staes, well known in Moline, died at 12 Friday noon of infirmities of age after an illness of one year. He resided at 1317 Fourth street, Moline. He was born June 29, 1845, in Belgium and was married in that country in 1871. The couple came to America and Moline in 1903, locating on the John Weckel farm on Seventh street.
Mr. Staes retired from active life nearly two years ago. He was a member of Sacred Heart church and was an honorary member of Note’s Belgian American military band. His wife preceded him in death in 1911. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Emma DeVolde and Mrs. Philip Hendricks, six sons, Alphonse, Adolph, August, Reene and Alois all of this city, and one son in Belgium. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 Monday morning in the home and at 9 in the Sacred Heart church. Father Culemans will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline.
