She was born to Marcellus Conkle & Elvera Peterson in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1964. In March 1967, she got a job working for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator-A job that she stayed at for over 35 years. During that time, she was the EVP of Operators Services for the CWA. She loved spending time with her family, whether it be a simple get together or a game of our infamous wiffle ball. She also loved to go on cruises with her husband and to play a slot machine or two.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Welsh; daughter, Rachelle (Ray) Meadows; sons, Herbie (Tonya) Giles, Jeremy (Amy) Welsh and Cortney Welsh; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; mother, Vera Walkenhurst; brother, Craig (Connie) Conkle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews & other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Marcellus; sister, Becky Boberg; & step-father, Frank Walkenhurst.
Memorial services will be Friday, August 24, 2012 at 12 Noon at the Riverside 4th Ward, 5200 So. Glendon Street (700 West). In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to a cancer charity of your choice in Diane's name. Online condolences: www.jenkins-soffe.com
