The Death of Mrs. Andresen

Mrs. Dorothea Andresen, widow of the late Christian Andresen, one of the first pioneers of the Grand Island settlement, died March 4th in Blair, 67 years old, after a sickness of about 3 weeks.

She and her husband, who preceded her in death some years ago, came out to this, then entirely uninhabited country in 1857, with the Davenport colony, which was the embryo of the Grand Island settlement, and the later Hall co. Mrs. Andresen was one of five ladies, who at the time ventured out with the first pioneers, and stood all the dangers and privations of frontier life, right in the country of the Indians, 65 miles west of the last white settlements. She was an honest, hard working woman, a true help to her husband, and a good mother to her little Caroline, the first white child that lived in the Grand Island country. She and her husband built up a fine farm, and were well to do, when they a long while ago moved away to Omaha and later to Blair, where she now has found her final resting place by the side of her husband. she will be kindly remembered as long as any of our first pioneers are living.
