Nellie Mae IDLEMAN
∼He was born in Lucasville, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde and Nellie Mae Idleman Brant. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio and his PhD. from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
He began his career as a research chemist with Tennessee Eastman in Kingsport, Tennessee. From there he became the Director of Research for the Institute of Textile Technology in Charlottesville, Virginia; Director of Research for the Bates Manufacturing Company in Lewiston, Maine; Director of Research for the Toni Division of the Gillette Company in Chicago, Illinois and retired in 1969 as Director of Research for Colgate Palmolive in NY City. Following an early retirement, he became a Calloway Professor with the Textile Engineering Department at Georgia Tech. in Atlanta, Ga.
He was an avid gardener and loved photography. He was the former Executive Director of the Henderson County United Way. He served as President of the Men's Garden Club, the Blue Ridge Camera Club and the Hendersonville Camera Club. He was actively involved in the Downtown Beautification Committee and was a member of Rotary International for over 50 years. He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Ames Brant, to whom he was married for 70 years.
He is survived by three daughters: Nancy Bracken, Jane Thomson, and Susan Chabot, a son Dr. David Brant and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
