Rufus DEASON, son of Mary Jane DEASON and Richard Henry LEWIS, was born on 8 March 1867 in Coosa County, AL. He received a third grade education, being able to read and write. Rufus was reared at his grandparents house (John and Mary Gray DEASON), surrounded by a sprawling neighborhood of DEASON's and extended family members.

On 28 December 1898, there in Coosa County, AL, Rufus married Miss Nancy Ophelia BAGLEY, daughter of James Leonard BAGLEY and Sarah RIDDLE.

Rufus and Nancy proceeded to have have nine children, Richard Aubrey DEASON, Odell DEASON, Emma Viola DEASON, Rufus Denson DEASON, Willie Pearl DEASON, Austin Kermit DEASON, Howell Lewis DEASON, George Henry DEASON, and Cecil Sylvester DEASON.

He was a farmer and a member of the Presbyterian faith. He, along with a few of his children are buried at the Brownsville Cemetery behind Hatchett Creek Presbyterian Church.
