Mrs. Brown lived in New Orleans where she attended the Sacred Heart Academy, Sophie Newcomb College and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She married William Perry Brown III and was a loving mother to her three sons and grandmother to her three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her brother Ernest A. Burguières, Jr. and her son William Perry "Pepper" Brown IV and two baby sisters Isabella Moore Burguières and Leila Moore Marie Burguières. She is survived by her sister Marie Robin Burguières Bristow, sons Francis Scott Brown and Kemper Williams Brown, and grandsons Kemper Williams Brown, Jr., Landon Carter Brown and William Perry Brown V.
Joan lived life to its fullest. She loved her family and her many friends and relatives. An accomplished equestrian, Joan also enjoyed summers at camps Riva-Lake and Rockbrook, driving trips with her sons, tennis, sailing, raising Morgan Horses and numerous travels with lifelong friends. She was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, The Garden Study Club of New Orleans, The Garden Club of America, Orleans Club, Le Petit Salon, New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, New Orleans Country Club, Southern Yacht Club, the Colony Club, New York City and her Wednesday Book Club. She had diverse business interests and served on the Board of Directors of the The J. M. Burguières Co., Limited, a family company founded in 1877 with operations in Louisiana, Texas and Florida. A family service will be held at Thornhill Plantation in Talladega, Alabama in the Hardie family cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Poydras Home, 5354 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70115.
