The funeral for Miss Mary Arnold Scherr, society editor at the Charleston Gazette for the last 30 years, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Chapel with the Rev. J. Harrell Harper officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Miss Scherr, daughter of the ate Arnold and Minnie Grose Scherr, died Tuesday at McMillan Hospital after a long illness.
A resident of 26 Brooks St., Miss Scherr was 66 years old and held the position of society editor until her death. Because of disabling illness she worked only at home, writing of weddings and social events in the city.
Miss Scherr first worked as a secretary here and in 1938 joined the Gazette as a reporter and was then named society editor.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Charleston High School, Holton Arms School in Washington, and Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
She is survived by nephews, Harry Scherr Jr. of Huntington, a former president of the West Virginia Bar Association and Joseph W. Scherr of Cincinnati, and nieces, Mrs. V. K. Wiles of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Jennings Randolph of Washington, D. C.
