Ms. Minnie Brown, 97, departed this life on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born June 3, 1914 in Campbell County to the late Ester Hewitt Nowlin Brown and James Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Brown and 10 half brothers and sisters, among her sisters were Marcella N. Jackson, Lula N. Claxton and Liza N. Logwood who were local residents. Minnie lived in Bronx, NY for over fifty years. She worked for Dr. Gould, a medical doctor. She went to LPN school and graduated. She worked as an LPN nurse at Bronx Lebanon Hospital for many years before retiring and returning to Lynchburg. She joined New Dearington Baptist Church and was a faithful member and supporter. Minnie is survived by a niece-in-law, Alberta M. Jackson; great nieces and caregivers, S. Kay Jackson and Carolyn J. McCain (Danny); great nephews, Edward L. Jackson, Donald Jackson and Charles Jackson; many great-great and great-great great nieces and nephews and other relatives. Minnie is also survived by her church family, neighbors, special friends, Mrs. Hattie Graves and Ms. Frances E. Thornhill and life-long friends, the Blair family (Gordon, Cynthia and Paula). A funeral service will be held 1pm, Thursday, March 1, 2012 at New Dearington Baptist Church with Rev. Artemus Dixon, officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family is receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The cortege will assemble at the church.
