Following funeral services here, the body will be taken to Quincy, Ill. for burial Thursday morning. The Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home where friends may call from this afternoon until time of services.
Mr. Wegs was born Sept. 4, 1901 at Quincy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wegs. He received his education there and on April 22, 1930 was united in marriage to Mary Gerry of Quincy.
In 1930 the couple moved to Estherville and Mr. Wegs was catcher for the old Estherville Eagles baseball team. For approximately 20 years he owned and operated Jerry Wegs Service Station, now Hammond Oil Co., and at the time of his death was employed at Joyce Lumber Co.
He had served as director of Junior Legion baseball here, manage of the Estherville Red Sox on two different occasions, and had served on the board of directors of Estherville Inc. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and of the Knights of Columbus and Elks lodges.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, two daughters, Margaret (Sister Mary Jeremy O.S.F., a teacher at Remsen) and Mrs. James (Kathryn) Tretter of California; one son, James, a student at the State University of Iowa; "one" grandchild; two brothers, Arthur of Chicago and Raymond of Quincy; one sister, Mrs. Andrew (Marge) Brummer, also of Quincy'; and several nieces.
