Rebecca Powell was born 1812 in Old Pendleton District, South Carolina, the daughter of either Allen Powell or Josiah Powell. Some sources have incorrectly stated that her father was the elderly William Powell who shows 1800 and 1810 Pendleton Dist., SC and 1820 Habersham Co., GA. This is not possible, since this William Powell already had an older daughter named Rebecca Powell who married Phillip McIntyre in Habersham Co., GA.

The elder William Powell, in Pendleton Dist., SC and Habersham Co., GA, was actually Rebecca Powell Bolding's grandfather. His sons were Allen Powell, Josiah Powell and James Powell. Deeds and records in Pickens Co., SC and Habersham Co., GA provide a strong basis for these family connections.

Rebecca Powell married about 1829 to Jonathan Lee Bolding, son of William Bolding of Wolf Creek, Old Pendleton District and Pickens Co., South Carolina. Their descendants lived near what is now Clemson and Easley, South Carolina. William Bolding died in late 1849 and shows on the 1850 Mortality Census of Pickens Co., SC. Two of Wm Bolding's other sons were Leonard Dison Bolding and Benjamin M. Bolding. The latter moved to Gordon Co., GA where he died 1888.
