Andrew was a farmer at Williamstown, Vermont during his first marriage with Mary. He was a Mason, a Republican, and a Universalist. After his second marriage (with Clara) he continued to live at Williamstown, but was a newspaper correspondent, and later the local manager of the Williamstown Herald. He lost one eye while splitting wood. At first he bore that bravely, and was always cheerful. However, he spent his last years in suffering and loneliness, living by himself over Lynde's store. His articles in the Williamstown Herald never gave a hint of the sorrow and hardship he must have felt.
