Additional Information submitted by J. Groves:
I came upon your entry for John Moffet, whom I believe is my sixth great grandfather. The family had moved to Oppenheim, NY so that they could participate in the Erie Canal project. Having given up on farming, John made money to support his wife and 12 children by selling timber and clearing land for the canal project.
He passed away unexpectedly in 1810 at the age of fifty years. According to "The Moffet Story", Rev. John Moffet was born 5 Oct 1760 at Northfield, MA.
