Annabel Harrison was born on April 18, 1864 to David Ruffin Harrison and Julia Ann Walker Harrison at their home in Herrin's Prairie, Illinois. Annabel was the second of 5 children born to David & Julia Harrison. Annabel was well educated and eventually attended the prestigious Mt. Carroll Seminary, known for it's emphasis on music and fine arts. Annabel lost her mother at the age of 10 and shortly thereafter her paternal grandmother, Delilah Herrin Harrison came to live with the family and help raise the children. At the age of 23 Annabel married Edward Everett Mitchell at the Harrison Home on June 30, 1887. Annabel and Edward had five children: Julia Rachel, Ruffin Edward, Jane Elizabeth, Florence Myrtle and Anne Francis Mitchell. The family moved several times during Edward's career from Carbondale to Chicago, Oak Park and eventually back to Carbondale, Illinois. Annabel enjoyed an active social life in Carbondale as well as being very active with her church. She was extremely close with her brothers and sisters, and lived across the street from her younger sister, Luella Harrison Hundley. Her grandchildren described her as: "A woman with beautiful features, always well dressed. She wore elegant dresses of the day with starched ruffled collars. She was a strong Baptist, like her mother and father before her, and always very active in the church. She was a member of Carbondale's high society and a charter member of the Carbondale Women's Club." Annabel Harrison Mitchell passed away on May 17, 1926 at the age of 62.
