William C. Hartnett, 93, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Schleisman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., a Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Chalice service by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Hartnett was born April 4, 1907, in Jackson, Neb., the son of Thomas J. and Madge (Killackey) Hartnett. He was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City. He had been a resident of Sioux City since 1925.

He married Hazel M. Graves on Nov. 20, 1926, in Elk Point, S.D. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed in the construction business for 35 years, retiring in 1976. His wife died Feb. 20, 1998, in Sioux City.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Epiphany Council 743, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly, American Legion Monahan Post 64 and Iron Workers Union 184.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Kennelly of South Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two sons, William P. and Leo Raymond Hartnett; and eight brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
