WAS LIFELONG RESIDENT OF DAKOTA COUNTY
Thomas J. Hartnett, 88 years of age and a lifelong resident of Dakota County, died Sunday morning at his home in Jackson after a long illness. He was a prominent and longtime resident of the Jackson community. Mr. Hartnett was born on February 14, 1862 at Hubbard. For many years he lived on a farm west of Jackson, later moving into town. He was widely known as a raiser of thoroughbred Hereford cattle. An extensive landowner, cattleman and banker, Mr. Hartnett was a former Dakota county commissioner and was active in northeast Nebraska democratic groups for many years. At one time he was a member of Epiphany council, Knights of Columbus and a fourth degree knight in Sioux City. Surviving are four sons, Thomas J. Jr. of Jackson, Daniel F. of Chicago, John. J. of Peoria, Ill., and William C. of Sioux City; five daughters, Mrs. Monica Brennan and Mrs. Rose Long of Chicago, and Mrs. Margaret McKernan, Mrs. Annie Ryan and Mrs. Charlotte Harty of South Sioux City; 40 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church in Jackson with Rev. Stanislaus Zukowski officiating. The body was placed in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City under the direction of the Larkin funeral home.
