Gas Issuing from Tanks Takes Toll
Claude Bartlett, 38, Pumper, Was Father of Six
Gas fumes from a tank battery proved fatal Monday night to Claude Bartlett, 38, Simms Oil Company employee, who was found dying on the Coffee lease, near Garden City. Bartlett was found prostrate by T.S. Dolan, foreman of the company, where he had fallen. His automobile was parked near the battery, and officials believed Bartlett had made an attempt to reach his car before he died.
He was a pumper for the company. A Big Spring physician was called, but the man was dead before he arrived. The body was brought to Big Spring in an Eberly ambulance. He is survived by his widow and six children. The body will be shipped to Kaufman, Texas, for burial. Bartlett was born June 19, 1892. He lived with his family on the Simms lease and had been an employee there for some time."
