Mary Cantey married William Whitaker on March 17, 1814.

Federal Union, Jun. 19, 1849 Died—At her residence in this county, on the morning of the 13th inst. Mrs. Mary Whitaker, consort of Wm. Whitaker, deceased, in the sixtieth year of her age. Suffering under a complication of maladies, she felt for some weeks past that her earthly career must terminate at no distant day. She maintained, however, her usual cheerful, social intercourse with her family and friends, manifesting no perturbation at the prospect of the grave, and resigned herself quietly and peacefully to the will of God. She was speechless for near a day previous to dissolution, and at length fell into the arms of death without a struggle or a groan. Thus ended a life of kindness and usefulness. Thus passed away a Christian woman—full of days and full of hope, followed by the tearful regrets of her family, and the sincere affection of many friends. She was a member of the Baptist Church for a number of years and it is hoped that she has left her place in the church militant to join in the joys of the elect of God on high. She needs no panegyric from my hand, the recollection of her virtues in the memory of those who knew her best, form at once her epitaph and her eulogy. A FRIEND.
