Amanda Caldonia Haislip was born 10 Mar 1838, Lincoln Co, TN. Her mother sent Amanda to Jackson College in Columbia. She had a good education and could read Latin as well as if it were English. She was one of the early preachers at Wakefield Chapel Church, a Northern Methodist congregation that was opposed to slavery. Amanda married on 9 Sep 1860 in Marshall Co, TN, to John William Murdock.
