John was born in Granville County, North Carolina ca 1878-8, son of Laban Haislip and Rebecca Welch. He migrated to Tennessee in 1807 and settled near the Duck River in Marshall County. He then moved to Bedford County and later to Lincoln County. John and his wife Sarah are buried in New Hope Cemetery near his father Laban Haislip's grave. He enlisted 27 Sept 1814 and served in the War of 1812 as a Private, John Doak's Company of the Tennessee Volunteers Mounted Gunmen. He was in the Battle of New Orleans and was discharged on 27 April 1815.
Pension issued under act 14 Feb 1871 and paid at Nashville Tennessee Agency.
