Selina S. Brown Royal, 84, departed this life at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002.
She was born April 4, 1918, in Mansfield to the late Leaner Garner Short and Wilbert Short. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. "Mama Selina," as she was affectionately called by those who knew and loved her, was a dedicated mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include three sons, Henry Brown Jr., James Royal and Calvin Royal, all of Lake Charles; one daughter, Beverly Royal of Lake Charles; two daughters-in-law, Shirley W. Brown and Jacqueline Royal, both of Lake Charles; two sisters, Dollie S. Flanigan and Fannie Williams, both of Mansfield; two brothers, Elbert Short and Garner Short, both of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gladys Brown Stewart.
Her funeral will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 7, in King's Funeral Home. The Rev. Leonard Wilson of Refuge Temple will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. Saturday.
