She married Tory Langland on 12 Aug 1916 and they had two children; Arline Marie and Jack Byron.
The family was struck with a catastrophe when her husband Tory was diagnosed with an intestinal form of cancer. Despite traveling all the way to a specialized treatment center in Los Angelos, California, there was little they could do to help. Tory's condition changed to critical and the family was sent for. Despite their best efforts, they were not able to reach California before Tory succumbed to his disease.
Despite this, California must have left its mark on Bessie. Returning back to Iowa, she waited as her daughter Arline married and her son Jack finished high school then decided to relocate to California. Her kids followed and the entire family made California their new home.
