He enlisted in 1903 into the Royal Scots Guards, was discharged in 1914 after being injured and joined the reserve but was called up again in 1915 and killed near Ypres.

He was the son of William Thomas Agar a Shoe Rivetter, born 1864 in Leicester and his wife Jane a Hosiery Winder, born 1864 in Leicester. Edwin was born in 1884 in Leicester, having one sibling Mary E., born 1889 in Northampton, in 1891 the family home was at 67, Archdeacon Lane, Leicester. In 1911 Edwin was serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion Royal Scots, and was stationed at Allahabad, India.
