Helen Georgia Christine (Rut) Suda was born to Frank and Cecilia (Vitak) Rut on the family farm, rural Tobias on April 3, 1912. She passed away November 24, 2011, at the Crete Area Medical Center at the age of 99 years, seven months, and 21 days. She was one of eight children in the family.

Helen was united in marriage to Anton J. "Tony" Suda on August 22, 1939, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tobias. To this union were born four children.

Helen lived on the same farm for 65 years. She then moved to the Sunshine Villa in Milligan where she lived five more years. The last six months of her life were at the assisted living apartments at the Wilber Care Center.

Helen had a deep devotion to God, and this was exemplified by a life of service. She was always caring for someone from the age of 14 until her death. Even at the assisted living center in Wilber, she was kind to and concerned for her caregivers.

Helen never forgot to send cards, letters, and notes to family and friends for all occasions. She was a very active member of the St. Wenceslaus Alter Society, donating items and making food for bake sales, and Jubilee breakfasts, even at the age of 98.

She enjoyed her family, and the life she led on the farm, especially gardening, and helping with harvest.

Helen loved to cook, bake, read, do puzzles, and embroider. When failing eyesight prevented her from embroidering, she began tying fleece blankets to give to family and friends. She completed over 125 fleece blankets.

One of her greatest joys was card playing. She played cards with friends and family, and she especially enjoyed cards with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her friends at the villa. Helen will be missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cecila; husband, Tony; four brothers, three sisters, two sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her son, James and wife Norma; daughters Bonnie and husband Ken Kreshel; Betty Michl; and Joann and husband Sherm Havel; 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sister Marie Bright; sister-in-law, Jeraldine Rut; cousin, Edward Rut; and many nieces and nephews.
