Noah was born near Emporia, Kansas in 1859. By 1880 the family had moved to Pleasant Hill Twp., Cass County, Missouri where he met Ida Frances Pennington. Noah and Ida were married in Cass County on 19 August 1883. About 1902 Noah, Ida and their children settled in Douglas County, Washington, taking up a homestead on Badger Mountain. They later moved 'into town'- Waterville. Ida died in 1908 leaving Noah with five children aged 18-9. Ida's mother, Nancy Jane (Farley) Pennington came to live with the family and help Noah raise the younger children. In 1921 Noah married Ida's sister, Amy Lee (Pennington) Stovall.

NOAH GUNKEL ANSWERS CALL
Noah Gunkel, 75, died yesterday at San Joaquin General hospital following an illness of more than a month. He was a native of Kansas and had lived in Lodi for the past five years, three of which he had resided with his daughter, Mrs. Minnie J. Campbell.
Mr. Gunkel was the husband of the late Ida Frances Gunkel; father of Mrs. Campbell of Lodi, W. D. Gunkel of Riverside, Lester S. Gunkel of Yuba City; Mrs. Myrtle Logan of Tacoma, Washington, and Joseph Gunkel of Winton, Washington.
Remains are at the funeral home of Hale & Bawden. Announcement of funeral will be made later.

Father Dies --- Joseph Gunkel has received word of the death of his father, Noah Gunkel, a former pioneer of the Waterville country, in Lodi, California. He came west in 1902, living here until about six years ago when he went to California.
Surviving are five children: William Gunkel, Riverside, California, Joseph Gunkel, Wenatchee, Mrs. Minnie J. Campbell, Lodi, and Mrs. Myrtle Logan, Tacoma; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Daniel Gunkel, Maryhill, Washington; and a sister, Amanda Hubbard, Minco, Oklahoma.
His wife preceded him in death August 9, 1908.
