Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Wednesday, December 10, 1952, page 2:
  Joseph C. Gross, 70, of Alhambra died Tuesday at 11:45 p.m. at his home. He was the mayor of Alhambra for 10 years, worked on the railroad since 1929 until the past five years when he retired, and was treasurer of Alhambra Mutual Telephone company for the past 12 years.
  He was the son of the late August and Elizabeth Gross.
  Survivors include his wife, the former Laura Fischer; one son, Wilson of Roxana; one brother, Herman; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Sehnert of Edwardsville, and two granddaughters. One sister, Agnes and three brothers, Emil, August and Frank, preceded him in death.
  The body may be viewed at the Dauderman funeral home at Alhambra after 7 p.m. Wednesday until 2 p.m. Friday when the services will be held at the funeral home. The Rev. Guy Moyer will officiate.
  Burial will be in Salem cemetery.
