Joseph N. Bajornas, age 89 of Canton, passed away Friday May 25, 2012 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born March 25, 1923 in Canton and was the son of the late John and Petras Bajornas. He was a retired diesel mechanic. Joseph attended Canton McKinley and the new Canton Timken High Schools. A World War II Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Enterprise as Chief Boatswain's Mate. For his heroism while serving on the Enterprise he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he volunteered for many parish activities including Merry Mates, Pre-Cana for engaged couples, Men's Club, the Catholic Order of Foresters and calling BINGO. He also spent many years coaching little league baseball. Joseph enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking. He was also able to introduce all of his children to the art of fishing with many hours spent on the water at Meyer's Lake and at the Lighthouse pier on Lake Erie.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on Nov. 6, 2011 and a brother, Edward Bajornas.
