Walter Raleigh Henry, Sr. was born May 6, 1877, the son of John Crawford Henry and Rachel Willims Moore Henry at their home located on Bouldercrest Road in Dekalb County, Georgia, not far from Tanner's Baptist Church where his family were members and many of his family are buried. He was their second child. He was one of five children. His siblings were: Dora Lee Henry Eliott; he was next; George Thomas Henry; Ruth Henry Owen; and Eula Henry Hinton Kelley. Walter attended Geogia Tech for a short time in the early 1900's. He became a school teacher for a time prior to his marriage to Annie Lou Flake Henry. They were married on July 31, 1910 . Walter and Annie Lou had ten children: Edna Earl Henry Hasty (1911-1997); John Eugene Henry(1913-1914); James Thomas Henry Sr. (1915-2011); Alice Flake Henry; Walter "Buddy" Raleigh Henry, Jr. (1920-1989); George Travie Henry Sr. (1922-1992); Rachel Henry Hurst; Harold "Hal" Henry; Zachary Adolphus Henry, Sr. (1930-2013) and Annie Lou Henry Clay. These ten children blessed Walter and Annie Lou with 48 grandchildren and their great grands and great great grands are still coming. The godly heritage they lived and taught to their family has been and continues to be such a blessing to their whole family, throughout the generations. I, as a grandson's wife, count it a privilege to be called a Henry and to be a part of ths fine man's lineage by marriage. My husband and I expect to be laid to rest one day in the Henry family plot along with Walter and Annie Lou and James and Mary(written by Eugenia Milner Henry, wife of James Thomas Henry, Jr.)
