Diane Slavkin Benson was born on January 23, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA.
She was the beloved daughter of Peggy Kahn of Escondido, CA and the late Milton (Marlene) Slavkin of New Port Richey, FL; cherished mother of Joanna (Byron) Tyson of Inglewood, CA, Jordan (supportive friend Brandy Solberg) Martinez of Renton, WA, and Sharon (Jamie) Lichota of Irwin, PA; grandmother of Sareena, Maya and Jamilla; beloved sister of David (Joanie) Slavkin of Richmond Hill, ON, Canada and Deborah (Michael) Arnold of Cleveland, TN; dear niece of Esther and Mitchell Sperling of Pittsburgh, PA; dearest friend of Kevin Daly of Bristol, England and Jerry Benson of Renton, WA; aunt to Joshua, Morgan, Benjamin, Simon, Sarah, Melissa, and Finley; and cousin to Gerri, Larry and Elana.
Diana arrived at this journey's end on November 9, 2009. Diane's love of family, Judaism, a quest to give back to her students, and passion for music shaped so many lives. We have all been enriched by her touch.
Diane was a devoted teacher at Echo Glen and the Interagency Academy King County Detention School, and a passionate member of the Temple B'nai Torah choir. She loved chanting Torah and tutoring Hebrew to countless B'nai Mitzvah students, of whom she was so proud. Her spirituality was evidenced by her ability to embrace all that she encountered.
Funeral services will be held at Temple B'nai Torah, 15727 NE 4th Street, Bellevue, WA on Tuesday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Abbey View Cemetery, Brier, WA. Thanks and gratitude for the support of friends, Rabbi Jim, Cantor David, Rabbi Kinberg, and the compassionate staff of the Bailey-Boushay House.
