Asahiko was a 12-year-old first year student at Second Hiroshima Prefectural Junior High School. He was with his classmate Isao Taniguchi assembling at their building demolition site when Hiroshima was atomic bombed. He received first aid treatment at Isao's family's house but died the following morning. Isao himself died later in the evening. The junior high school student's uniform he was wearing when he was exposed to the bomb was donated to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on January 14, 1983 as an A-bomb artifact.
