This is John Banta, Sr.

"In Memory of" marker for (Shaker) John Banta, who is actually buried at South Union Shaker Cemetery in Logan County Kentucky. His memorial there is 100341870, but that burial ground no longer exists. John was one of the 19 known children of Father Henry Hendrick Banta, the 4th child of Henry and second wife Annie Demaree. He married Mary "Polly" Ryker about 1780 and they moved from Conewago Colony Pennsylvania to Kentucky soon after their marriage. The held the first Shaker meeting in their home in Shelby County, and moved to the new Shaker colony in Mercer County. In 1815 John left the Pleasant Hill community and moved to Soth Union Shaker Village to become the blacksmith, where he died soon after arrival.
