Omaha Daily Bee, July 6, 1909:

Sylvester Beasley, 72 years old, residing at 4703 North Sixteenth street, died Sunday night at 8:28 from troubles, which he contracted during the civil war. Mr. Beasley was born in Bedford, Ind., and answered his country's call for troops in 1862. He was with Sherman in his march to the sea and saw service until the close of the war. Shortly after the close of the war, Mr. Beasley took up a homestead at Cuming City, Neb., where he lived for many years and then moved to Omaha where he conducted a large boarding and lodging house at Sixteenth and Farnam streets which was afterwards turned into a city hall. Recently Mr. Beasley has been partially paralyzed and almost helpless.

He is survived by his wife, who is 70 years old, and four married daughters, Mrs. Clara E. Jessen, wife of Peter Jessen, jr., Mrs. William H. Whitney of Independence, Ia., Mrs. Dora Ratekin of Omaha and Mrs. Sarah A. Plumber of Omaha.

The funeral will probably be held Wednesday under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
